  • My name is Taylor Sherman, some of you may have seen my YouTube videos by the name "Pokerwithoutcards."

I've been a hypnotist for over 6 years now, and I've learned a lot and met many amazing people. As one of the community mentors here on the IATH, I want to help each and every one of you.

My areas of specialty include instant inductions, language patterns, NLP, street hypnosis, and a variety of other topics that can be found in my seminars, workshops, and teleconferences.

For credentials, I am a Certified Hypnotist through multiple organizations, as well as a Certified Membership Instructor for the Society of Experiential Trance (SET). I have had experience in running a successful private practice, and have spent many hours developing custom-tailored programs for my clients.

I've also done thousands of "cold" street walk-ups, and have shared the skills I've learned that have resulted in entire courses on body language and social dynamics. I've had a LOT of fun :)

I run the TrancedOUT web network (http://www.trancedout.com), and I am good friends with another community mentor, Josh Houghton. As Josh will tell you, we are excited and energized to be a part of such an amazing group of people.

I'd would like to extend a special thanks to Nathan Thomas, and Leo Gopal, for putting all of their energy into this project. Also I'd like to thank Richard Nongard for his part in the development of offering certification courses for teenagers.

Please feel free to send me messages with any questions you might have about hypnosis. As community mentors, we are here to help you grow, and we want to see you succeed.

    Warmly,

    Taylor Sherman

  • I suppose I'll go Next,

I'm a 17 year old hypnotist, uncertified, not that it maters too much other than for legal issues.

I started a year ago with some videos on youtube, which had some success (more than i expected at least) and am currently working on newer, more complicated ideas for demonstrations and videos.

You may have seen a few of my videos, i might post them from time to time here as reference material, I've done a little of everything, definatly learned my share of what to do and what not to do.

Looking forward to sharing what i know and maybe learning a bit in the process

  • I posted my own thread before this official one, but I may as well repeat myself here for reference.

I'm Samuel Putnam (Sam) from Chicago, Illinois, USA. I started hypnosis about 3 months ago and am starting to get some success, though I haven't had as much practice as I'd like. I'm 16 years old, and am looking forward to learning anything I can here, and also have a bit to share in terms of things I've read, heard, and critically considered. I'm currently experimenting with conversational / covert hypnosis due to the lack of consenting people for a real induction (I have no friends... just kidding.)

Best of luck to you all,

    Sam
  • Hi Sam
i responded to your last thread, but heres a little tip which will also be covered in future lessons...
use covert hypnosis to help people see the value in being hypnotized by you... just a thought :D

    Now Lateralus...
    first, welcome to the IATH!
The fact that you actually do what you learn means you are already better than most of the hypnotists out there, so congrats.
feel free to start a thread and post your videos and we'll be happy to give you some helpful feedback.
once again, welcome, and i can't wait to see how much more you learn grow as a hypnotist here at the IATH, remember ask questions and keep us posted on your progress
    Thanks again
    Nathan

  • Hey Everyone,

Thanks for starting this thread Taylor as its a great way to learn more about the different members of this great community. So I guess I'm next in line for a official introduction.

My name is Joshua Houghton and I'm a 26 year old Certified Hypnotist and Consultant based out of Columbus, Georgia. I have been interested in hypnosis since the age of 16, but really got serious about hypnosis within the last 5 years. Ever since than I have been a hypnosis machine learning and gathering all the knowledge I could about hypnosis and fields related to it.

I currently own and operate Southern Hypnosis & Consulting which is my full time hypnosis practice. When I'm not working with clients I'm usually working on my free hypnosis information and article blog whatsonmybrain.com or guest writing for other sites such as The Transparent Hypnotist and Trancedout.com

Currently I'm a member of the National Guild of Hypnotists, The International Association of Hypnotists and I'm also currently working on my certification with the ICBCH. Beside all of that I'm also a community mentor with this organization. I know, how do I get anything done? I also conduct workshops, seminars and working on creating training material for hypnotists when time permits with my good friend Taylor Sherman, who is also a community mentor with this organization as well. I also enjoy getting out the house and performing street hypnosis when I can as I find this is a great way to build confidence.

My specialty is in the areas of instant inductions, regression to cause, language patterns, fear removal sports improvement and more. As my friend Taylor said I also want to extend a special thanks to Nathan Thomas, and Leo Gopal, for putting all of their energy into this organization. I know great things are ahead for the both of them. It's amazing it took this long for a organization like this to become reality. My hat off to both of you.

As a community mentor I'm more than happy to answer any questions you may have to the best of my ability. I'll do my best to provide you with the answers and if I don't know it we'll find the answers together. So as you see I'm just a normal 26 year old who LOVES hypnosis. I'm so glad this organization has been created as I wish a resource like this would have existed when I was a teenage Hypnotist.

    Success to All,

  • Hey all :)

IBDoyle AKA Posiedon from Uncommon Forum.

Pretty experienced, haven't done much in a month or so though as I've sort of hit a block :O Which is one of the things I hope to break through using this site.

I'm more than happy to help anyone, equally more than happy to be helped.

    Regards,

  • Hello,

I'm Daniela and I've tried hypnosis many times but I've never actually studied the facts behind it. I'd love to do that, as well as learn more about induction and the "trance" state. I hope to learn more...but I have a very busy schedule.

  • Hi Daniela
spend a moment a day to peruse the lessons, post in the forums, and, most importantly, to use hypnosis as part of your everyday life!
    welcome to the community!

  • Hello everybody

My names justin and i've recetly taken up an interest in nlp and hypnosis and all workings of the mind in general. im extremely happy i found this site (because im a beginer) and im willing to learn . iv had 6 sucsesful inductions on friends and family, lol but i relize this is nothing compared to most of you. i hope this site will help me and everybody else get the info they need.

    -mavrick
  • Its not about how many inductions you have performed. It all about what you learn from those moments. Remember we are started some where and you have a better track record than I did at your age. Just keep practicing and always ask feedback from the people you work with. It is a great tool.

  • Hi justin
I'm glad you like it here!
it is my goal and leos to be sure you all get everything you need and beyond to get you where you want to be in hypnosis, this forum being a major part of that, so ask questions, share your thoughts and have fun using and trying out what you learn

Welcome and congratulations on joining the IATH

  • Hello people :D

I'm Jake, I'm 13 years old, and I heard about this website from the Uncommon Knowledge forum
I started researching hypnosis around 6 months a go, and have been regularly practicing it for at least 3 months now. I prefer the whole stage hypnosis side of things, haven't really done any therapy, although I always make sure I slip in positive suggestions :). I regularly preform in front of large groups (highest was around 50on the school yard), an I don't get shy or anything. Ive tried out street hypnosis ONCE and it worked out fine, but I unfortunately haven't got a camera to film anything (yet ;)).
    ...
    Jakez
  • Hey Jakez,

Its great to have you here and I wish I would have started when I was 13. If you just keep practicing you will go far. Feel free to ask questions if needed as Taylor, Nathan, I or one of the other community mentors should be able to help you. Here is a piece of small advice that will serve you well in the future. I doubt you would run into any problems now due to your age, but its always better to be professional early so it builds up the habit. Avoid the use of the word therapy as in some states if you live in the states its consider illegal to 'practice' therapy' unless you are licensed.

As I said I know due to your age it shouldn't be a problem, buts its better to learn early on as the focus of this organization is to prepare the future of this profession. A few hypnotists I know have been served with a cease and desist order as they claimed what they did was therapy. Technically we just help people figure out solutions to problems of everyday life. We as hypnotists don't treat, cure or dignosise anything. So just keep that in mind for the future :)

Congratz on having the confidence to perform in front of all those people. It sounds like you will have a great future. Look forward to seeing videos in the future.

  • My name is Kim-Erling and I'm 15 years old (getting 16 in December). I am Norwegian, and very few people know that I know how to hypnotize. I have not practised hypnosis because The Norwegian Law says it's illegal, unless you are a doctor or psychologist... that is too bad! However, since the law may disappear, I may start practising hypnosis, soon the law is gone.

I am now in upper secondary school, so I'm very busy at for the time coming. Therefore I may not be the biggest poster here, but I'll try to be here at least more than once a month.

Else I'm the youtube user called "24P32". I haven't uploaded any hypnosisvideos because I'm not allowed to practise hypnosis as long as the law exists.
  • Thats to bad kebl
  • Hey Kebl,

Well as it may be illegal to practice hypnosis. I assume it's not illegal to study hypnosis or read about hypnosis. So until that time comes, just keep studying and reading or watching dvds as when the time does come you'll bea pro by than.

  • UBaid,

    Welcome to the IATH forums.

Your English is fine, it's not a big deal.

With regards to your questions on hypnosis, be specific. What do you need to know in order to be successful? If you give us a specific question, we can answer it better.

    Thanks, and welcome.

I need to learn inductions and stuff like showed in that video. The hypnotist just asked guy to clear his mind noting else. Rest he did moving fingers in front of him. Tat very unusual rapid induction he used.
  • I have had a new look at the law, and it describes hypnosis as something removing your consciousness and makes you do anything for the hypnotist. Since hypnosis works alot different (you are always conscious, also as hypnotized and can easily emerge), the law is impossible to break. That means that I am allowed to practise hypnosis. That's good. At least for me...
  • Welcome ubaid88,
Your English fine better than mine I always have typos. Well anyway check the site and the key of the mind blog. You will learn a lot. Also if you want to learn a rapid induction the key is confidence when I first tried it did not work but try it on friends then you will get the hang of everyone acts different.
  • Thank You Arojr
Yes i also mostly make typing mistake rather bad English.
Well if you look tat videos above it very unusual kind of Induction no pre-talk. He just said clear your mind.
  • Hi all
welcome to all our new members! Ubaid88 and Kebl, i am very glad to have you here, and i look forward to your future questions and posts.

    Jakez
wow! at 13 you seem to be on fire, spectacular! i am hugely impressed with your confidence and the fact that you get out there and do it!
i very much look forward to reading more about you and your take on hypnosis in future posts
    Thanks
    Nathan
  • kebl- Be careful with circumventing a law even if you disagree with it's exact definition. At this point no one can advise you to practice hypnosis, without consulting a lawyer. I advise you to do that before you practice hypnosis, and -especially- before you get paid for it.

ubaid - I'd advise you to first learn the regular inductions, and then you can learn the unusual ones.

To quote Milton Erickson, as told by Christina Hall:

"Adults seem to want to learn everything all at once. This approach will not work."

First you learn the fundamentals. Then you learn the fancy stuff after you are already good.

Maintaining your confidence is on your plate. You must decide, do you want to be a hypnotist, or do you only want to learn enough to do that induction? This will determine what you will learn, and how quickly you learn it.

  • Hey Ubaid,

I recommend you start with the Elman Induction as its a simple induction and it can teach you a lot about the process of hypnotic induction. I completely agree with Taylor that without a strong foundation even the best of houses won't stand. I will be posting a special hour long podcast here on the site soon on how to get max success with this induction. If you need a copy e-mail me at Josh@southernhypnosis.com and I will send you one.

  • Mike,

Make sure to listen to my interview with Nathan here:

    http://keystothemind.blogspot.com/2008/04/hypnosis-interviews.html

I spent a bit of time explaining that particular point and breaking it down. The short version is that persistence pays off and you gotta do it even if you think you'll never do it. I've hypnotized many, many people via street hypnosis and I can vouch that it is what you bring to it, not always what the crowd is doing, that is important in them agreeing to be hypnotized.

    Thanks,

  • Hello all.
My name is Zach, I'm a 17 year old from Colorado, and I am deeply looking forward to learning Everything I can about hypnosis of all types.

A word of warning however, I am notorious for losing intrest in thing, regardless of how amazing, within a couple weeks. Hopefully this will not be the case, but if I suddenly drop off the net I've probably just forgotten and am unlikely to return :(

    Questionably_Inane
  • Hi Zach,

    Welcome to IATH.

If you are so likely to lose interest, why start in the first place?

Let me share with you a distinction about successful versus unsuccessful people.

Unsuccessful people take a LONG time to make up their minds to actually do something. They ponder and think about it a lot, and then finally they take some small step. Then once they take it, they change their minds really fast. They make decisions slowly, and change their minds quickly.

Successful people do the opposite. They make decisions quickly - they use their instincts. And once they've made a decision, they tend to stick with it for a long time. When you're successful, you make decisions quickly, and change your mind slowly.

There's also a distinction between commitment and interest. An interested runner sees it's raining outside, and says "Ah, well, it's raining, I guess I'll go out tomorrow." The committed exerciser says, "It's raining out, I guess I'd better find my rain gear."

We want you to be committed. The question is, do you know how to get yourself to be committed?

That's something you can learn through hypnosis.

    Thanks,

  • *sigh*
I guess I never thought about it like that.
It's just that there are so many interesting things to learn out there, and I kinda want to know it all. So, I pick up one thing, but when I find another I drop the first to concentrate on the other. I know this is not a good way to learn new things, and all I end up with is a vague knowledge of everything rather than in-depth with just a few. With any luck the mysteries of the sub-consious mind will keep me occupied long enough to really get committed. Thanks for the advice Taylor.

    Bro,

Is it LUCK, or is it a choice you make?

You seem to be swayed by any big gush of wind that comes along; you're like a floating buoy in the ocean, some big current comes by and everything you've known washes away or loses interest for you.

Paradigm Nuevo: One developed talent is worth ten average skills.

It's up to you, but if you really think you're going to only stick with something for a couple weeks, then you should put it on your calendar. Plan it out, make an appointment. That should add some excitement into your life.

  • Hey Im Ty I just turned 17. Im from Utah. I have some videos on youtube if you want to check those out. search SASRosco03. I first got interested in hypnosis when I was 14 at a scout camp I was working at. This Kid that was working there hypnotized my brothers best friend. After that summer I researched it. The way I learned hypnosis was to put someone on the ground and shake there head back and forth while they are counting. That worked pretty well. I resently just got back into learning about hypnosis I researched farther I learned diffrent techniques. Thanks to Nathan Thomas I learned some instant inductions on youtube. Thats my story. :)
  • hey SASRosco03,
