My mate punched someone i was hypnotising?!?!?
  • Hey guys i recently started hypnotising (...rediculous i know), been doing it since last tuesday and today my mates were having a scuffle in my room (as they do), so i told them to chill out and got ready to hypnotise one of them, i said to my other mate to not punch him while he was under (expressing my seriousness about the request as after reading up on abreactions i didnt want any risk of that at all!) so he said he would and sat at the other end of the room, so i take my mate under and start on my deepener where i tell them to focus on their feet and feel the relaxtion all the way up to the head and thought i would try something new and make him feel like he is floating so just as im getting him to take the focus up to his legs, my mate comes and smacks him in the leg! Now i wasnt that far in but i hypnotise this guy all the time and he drops like a rock after like 5 seconds of focussing. Was i within reason to kick off at my mate for doing that? Is it a rediculous thought that there was a chance of him feeling that pain and it causing that kind of thing? I feel savage for having a go but i really was freaked out at the thought i could have unvealed some horrific memory or something?? i dno im only a beginner, can anyone enlighten me on this? Cheers guys :)

Chill bro. Hypnosis isn't some mystical shit. If you don't suggest something to happen or they don't expect something to happen then its not going to happen. Hypnosis is individual to everyone because its all in their mind, its fueled by their expectations. Just don't do regression and you'll be fine.
  • yeah fair mate, but i read up on abreactions and it was some worrying stuff :/
thanks for the reply dude, i know now if it happens again i dont have to freak out and yeah wont be touching on regression any time soon, also, is making people remember memories from their childhood risky? i do it by taking them to a beach or something and then telling them to feel a smile on their face, then i tell them to let the smile take them back to good times from when they were young making sure theyre happy and looking for happy thoughts? i dno whether that is age regression or not :L sorry for my lack of knowledge on the subject, my coursework gets in the way of my hypnosis research haha. i've done this like 20 times already and its worked great, them remembering memories from so young and in so much detail! cheers mate :)

Abreaction are very uncommon; I've had one where I mentioned they would imagine a dog of their favorite sort and they burst out into tears immediately because their dog died recently.

    Abreactions happen when:

    1. You're not in control of the situation and you freak out.

    2. You bring up bad/suppressed memories.

Hypnosis isn't an exact science so occasionally those things will happen. Just keep calm, cool, and professional. Tell them its ok, the memories fading slowly now until its all gone or something like that. Apparently you shouldn't wake them up immediately in these situations but worst goes to worst. Do what you gotta do.
  • thats some reassurance, thanks again for the input mate!
    much appreciated :)
