Pre-talk
  • i was wondering how do you use a pretalk to put a person in a light trance so the induction is easier

  • Hey Seth!

I responded to your question about covert trance which has a lot if information around this topic. It has to do with building your skills. If you want to induce trance then you need to know what trance is. We can clearly define trance as a focused state of awareness. In any aspect of trance work you're going to do, you'll have that focused attention first and foremost. Meaning, if they aren't paying attention to you, then there's nothing else to do. Many other people may argue that trance implies someone going to "sleep" or closing their eyes or other phenomena. But that's not trance. Those are certain behaviors that occur after the person has fixed attention on something. So again, focus and attention are first and foremost. They need to be listening to you.

Second thing. Using a pre-talk, conversation, instructions, descriptions . . . they all use the same mechanism to induce trance which is language. Inducing trance while doing some pre talk isn't any different from doing it while talking about the moon or aliens. It's all the same. You need to know how language affects the person's body. If I were to jabber on and on and then draw your attention to your left big toe. . . . you would notice the feeling in it. Same thing here. You can talk about relaxing experiences that they've had. How do you know their experience? You ask. Typically, it's very successful for beginning students to start using vivid imagery in their descriptions. Include every sense: hearing, eye sight, feeling and emotion. All those need to be described. . . . saturated in detail until their about to explode from the experience. You need to hold their attention and start using savory language in order to elicit the response you want. You need to know what state you want to induce besides "trance". We use trance for OTHER things. We don't just elicit trance for the hell of it. We need a direction. Perhaps relaxation is the goal. Maybe changing their state so they can have a different perspective on their problems. It could be that eliciting trance helps them think more clearly. It's always for something. Having a goal in mind will also increase your skill in thinking through your work. So, vivid descriptions and having a goal in mind. That's what we have so far.

Here is the link to the discussion I posted a reply on about trance and vivid description examples: http://youthehypnotists.com/forum/discussion/1345/no-success-so-far-any-suggestions#Item_8

So here may be an example of trance being elicited during a pre-talk. Remember, don't use my example. Come up with your own.:

" Well you know hypnosis really isn't what some people think. Some people imagine relaxing deeply until a strong feeling of comfort can be experienced. This comfort loosens the muscles in their neck, shoulders, back and so on. This aids in the flow of experiences that the individual will experience in a very unique way. They may start paying more attention to the environment or they may go inside their minds and think about other things. Like when you play a game or when you play guitar. After a while you become good enough that you don't need to focus on the game or guitar chords anymore while you play. It's almost like there's a drifting that occurs. You drift in and out of consciousness. You may notice a particular note played and then remember a time when you heard a song you really loved on the radio. And what it must be like for the band playing in front of an entire audience with hot lights and cheering girls! All screaming their name as they feel the adrenaline pouring through their veins. I bet that musician can picture all the people who don't him he wouldn't make it and laugh in their face!"

Notice how your attention gets sucked in? You're simply painting a picture and your tools are the words you use. Let your imagination run away with you while doing this. Start writing some inductions on your computer. Do at least 5 and make them about 4 paragraphs long. After you do that, try inducing someone while talking about a relevant topic. Notice how much easier it is!

This really works but you need to put in the time or effort. It won't come by itself and there's no easy way around it. Just gotta do it.

    Hope that helps!
What do you want? Where are you in relation to that? And what do you need to pull in to get there?
